Sherine Shawky (Egypt) – Research Professor, The American University in Cairo.
Biography:
Sherine Shawky is currently a Research Professor at the Social Research Center of the American University in Cairo, a position she has held since 2003. She holds a Medical Degree from Ain Shams University, a Doctorate in Public Health from the Catholic University of Louvain, and Master’s degrees in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the Catholic University of Louvain and the Free University of Brussels, respectively. Previously, she was a Professor at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah and served as an Expert Physician in Rwanda. Shawky has been a member of the Rockefeller Boston University High-Level Commission on Health Determinants, Data, and Decision Making. With over 30 years of research and capacity-building experience, she has consulted for several agencies including the World Bank, WHO, UNDP, UNFPA, and others. Shawky has contributed to multiple national and regional reports such as the World Bank report on Achieving the Demographic Dividend in Egypt (2022), Egypt Vision 2030 health indicators, and the Arab Human Development Reports. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, showcasing her extensive expertise and impact in public health and epidemiology.
