In Aden and Mukalla, WHO and Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population marked the completion of the 2026 basic field epidemiology course, part of a broader effort to build national capacity for outbreak surveillance and response.

The programme trains surveillance officers and health workers across districts and health facilities to collect and analyze surveillance data, investigate suspected outbreaks, and support rapid response when unusual illness clusters appear, since every outbreak begins with an early signal that can escalate quickly if not caught in time.

Supported by the Pandemic Fund in 2026, the Field Epidemiology Training Programme combines classroom learning with practical field exercises, aiming to build a stronger disease surveillance system capable of preventing, detecting, and responding to public health threats and ultimately improving health security across the country.
